Relapse Prevention Strategies for Halloween Activities

Relapse prevention strategies are significant to a teenager’s life on a daily basis as well as during enticing times such as the holidays. This Halloween have a plan for avoiding drugs and alcohol, all while spending quality time with your friends and family.

Strategies for Relapse Prevention for Halloween
1. Plan your own Halloween event at home. When hosting a Halloween party, you can control who will attend and be absolutely guaranteed there will not be any alcohol or drugs present. By hosting your own Halloween party, you are also able to avoid people who are under the influence of these substances.

2. Celebrate the holiday traditionally. Carrying on family Halloween traditions can essentially be an effective method for relapse prevention. These traditional activities include bobbing for apples, haunted houses, sweet treats, elaborate costumes, and face painting. Make this Halloween special, memorable, and something that you can be proud of.

3. Participate in a Halloween run. Instead of indulging yourself with chocolate or other candy, go run a 5K, 10K, Half Marathon, or Marathon on October 31, 2015. Running races are a great way to support local organizations.
Races in Georgia on Halloween (October 31, 2015):

• XTERRA Georgia Battle at Big Creek 10/5 Mile Trail Run (Roswell, Georgia)
• Garden Gallop 5K (Kennesaw, Georgia)
• Zombie Run Atlanta 5K (Atlanta, Georgia)
• Silver Comet Half and Full Marathon (Mableton, Georgia)

National Grandparents Day, September 13th

This year for National Grandparents Day (September 13th) attempt to spend quality time with your grandmother and/or grandfather. When dedicating time to hang out with your awesome grandparents, you should definitely plan some entertaining activities. Some examples of such activities include: cooking a family recipe, going on an adventure, arts and crafts, share memories, make a birdhouse, BINGO, gardening, scrapbooking, and so much more! I have included a poem (perfect for a card for your grandparents) and a song that is sure to put a smile on your grandparents’ face.
“Grandparents are meant for kisses and hugs,
For watching rainbows and catching bugs,
For baking all of your favorite things,
For books to read and songs to sing.”—Author unknown

“A Song for Grandma and Grandpa”

Watch the video here!

Chorus:
Oh Grandma, Grandpa, you know that I love you
I love all those little things that you say and do
A walk through the park, a trip to the zoo
Oh Grandma, Grandpa I love you

Verse One:
Going to a ball game, fishing on the lake
Eating Grandma’s cookies, boy they sure taste great
Going to the circus when it comes to town
Eating cotton candy and laughing at the clowns

Chorus:
Oh Grandma, Grandpa, you know that I love you
I love all those little things that you say and do
A hug and a kiss, a ride home from school
Oh Grandma, Grandpa I love you
Verse Two:
Spending time together, talking on the phone
Happy birthday presents, chocolate ice cream cones
Photographs and memories, picnics and parades
Saying that you love me in so many ways

Chorus:
Oh Grandma, Grandpa, you know that I love you
I love all those little things that you say and do
The stories you tell, things I never knew
Oh Grandma, Grandpa I love you
